Mauna Loa Volcano
Located on The Big Island of Hawaii, Mauna Loa or "long mountain" in Hawaiian is the second tallest volcano in the Hawaiian Islands and the most massive mountain on Earth. Mauna Loa rises 4170 m / 13,680 ft above sea level but its flanks extend 4.8 km / 3 miles to the ocean bottom and its great mass depresses the sea floor another 8 km / 5 miles making its height from the ocean bottom 17,000 m/ 56,000 ft! Mauna Loa is an active volcano whose last eruption was in 1984. The white material atop the volcano is snow.
