Hengifoss Waterfall
South of the east Iceland community of Egilsstaðir at the end of a long narrow lake (Lagarfljót - rumoured to be home to a monster) is the trialhead to Hengifoss. Hengifoss, meaning "hanging falls," is the third highest waterfall in Iceland at 128 m (420 feet). This waterfall is unique in that the water cascades over horizontal bands of iron rich red clay.
