Dyrhólaey Rock

Dyrholaey Rock Iceland

Sea stacks of varying size and shape can be found in the waters off Iceland's south coast. The rocky stacks provide refuge and nesting sites for birds such as the Atlantic Puffin during the breeding season (typically June) and inspiration for the occasional photographer. This stack can be found off the Dyrhólaey promontory, a short drive from the community of Vik. Dyrhólaey means "door hill island" even though it isn't an island.
